Iconic books are texts revered as objects of power rather than just as words of instruction, information, or insight. In religious and secular rituals around the globe, people carry, show, wave, touch and kiss books and other texts, as well as read them. This blog chronicles such events and activities. (For more about iconic books, see the links to the Iconic Books Project at left.)

Egypt asks for Rosetta Stone

The Art Newspaper reports that Egypt has asked the British Museum to loan it the Rosetta Stone for a three month exhibit. The article notes that one issue complicating this request is the stone's "iconic importance. It is probably the single most-visited object in the BM’s entire collection, attracting even more visitors than the Parthenon Marbles."

not to be all negative but i will lay odds that once they lend it.
they won't get it back. Egypt has been getting a lot of its treasures back legally. and once the stone is back where it came from they would have a hell of a court case. and there is some merit to their argument. personally i think it should stay where it is.
