Iconic books are texts revered as objects of power rather than just as words of instruction, information, or insight. In religious and secular rituals around the globe, people carry, show, wave, touch and kiss books and other texts, as well as read them. This blog chronicles such events and activities. (For more about iconic books, see the links to the Iconic Books Project at left.)

"Sacred" books at British Library

The British Library's exhibit, "Sacred," (April 27 through September 23, 2007) looks like it must be a wonderful parallel demonstration of the iconic and artistic power of scriptures in multiple traditions. See the exhibit website and the review in The Times. Would anyone like to report their impressions of the exhibit?
